প্রিয় ভিউয়ারস, আশা করি ভালো আছেন। আমিও আল্লাহর রহমতে ভালো আছি। আজকের ব্লগে ‘Phrases’ এর অন্যতম প্রকার “Prepositional Phrase” নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা শেয়ার করবো। আশা করি আপনারা উপকৃত হবেন। তাহলে শুরু করা যাক।

Prepositional Phrase এর পরিচয় –

 

Prepositional Phrase এর সংজ্ঞাঃ কোনো Phrase বা শব্দসমষ্টি যখন Preposition এর কাজ করে তখন তাকে Prepositional Phrase বলে।

Prepositional Phrase এর গঠন –

⇘ Preposition মূলত Noun/Noun-equivalent এর পূর্বে বসে Sentence এর অন্য Word এর সাথে সেই Noun বা Noun-equivalent এর সম্পর্ক নির্দেশ করে। সুতরাং Prepositional Phrase-ও Preposition এর কাজ করে। অধিকাংশ Prepositional Phrase এর শুরুতে এবং শেষে Preposition এবং মাঝে Noun থাকে (Preposition + Noun/Noun-equivalent + Preposition) Prepositional Phrase – এর পর Object রূপে Noun/Noun-equivalent ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন – She is at the point of death.

উপরের বাক্যে ‘at the point of’ Prepositional Phrase। কারণ এটি তার পরবর্তী ‘death’ Noun টিকে Object রূপে গ্রহণ করেছে। তাছাড়া নিয়ম অনুযায়ী Phrase টির শুরুতে এবং শেষে ‘at ও of’ preposition এবং মাঝে ‘point’ Noun বসেছে। নিম্নে এমন কিছু Prepositional Phrase এর তালিকা দেওয়া হলো –

By means of, at the top of, by virtue of, by way of, at home in, by the side of, for want of, in view of, instead of, in spite of, in front of, in course of, in consequence of, in common with, in search of, in the event of, in the name of, in the face of, in the teeth of, in regard to, on behalf of, on the face of, by dint of, out of harmony with, under the name of, with a view to, with the view of, with an eye to, with reference to, with regard to, in proportion to, in honour of, in order to, in connection with, in keeping with, in accordance with, on the eye of, on account of, on the point of, on the brink of, with respect to, with the intention of, with the hope of, at the end of, by reason of, for fear of, for the purpose of, for sake of, from the door to door, from hand to mouth, from heaven to earth, from cradle to the grave ইত্যাদি।

 

⇘ Preposition + Noun যোগে Prepositional Phrase গঠিত হয়। যেমন – At liberty, at leisure, across the road, beyond limits, before one’s face, behind one’s back, before one’s eyes, before the fire, beneath notice, between two fires ইত্যাদি।

 

⇘ Adjective/Adverb + Preposition + Noun-equivalent যোগে Prepositional Phrase গঠিত হয়। যেমন – left for dead, away from home, good for food, ready for battle, lame of life, far from the fire ইত্যাদি।
