Waste is anything that we throw away
every day. It can be in any form - liquid, solid, or gas. Sources of waste can
be broadly classified into four types: - industrial, commercial, domestic, and
agricultural. Waste has the potential to harm humans or the environment,
either now or in the future. So, proper waste management is required to protect the
environment and for the health and safety of the population. Now the question is
what waste management is. Waste management is the management of disposal and
recycling of it. In fact, waste management is an important element of
environmental protection. Its purpose is to provide hygienic, efficient, and
economical solid waste storage, collection, transportation, and treatment or
disposal of waste without polluting the atmosphere, soil, or water system. There
are various methods and techniques by which the waste is disposed of. Some of
them are Landfills, Recycling, Composting, etc. Furthermore, these methods are
very useful in disposing of waste without causing any harm to the
environment. It is true that we cannot altogether get rid of our waste, but proper management of it can certainly reduce it. If we think of burning,
burying, recycling, and thus reducing our waste, we can save our environment to
a great extent. We can use some waste as fuel. We can use vegetable waste to
make compost to improve our soil. So it is high time to take proper steps and
necessary measures to raise awareness about the problem of waste management.
