Experience is the Best Teacher: We learn from two distinct methods.
One is the method of gaining knowledge by doing something on our own; the other
is the method of receiving instructions from someone else. The knowledge
acquired by the first method is much more lasting than the same gained through
instructions. For learning through instructions we are to strain our nerves and
brains to remember and recapitulate the lessons. But the lessons learned through
self-experience are more easily grasped. They are imprinted on our mental
plate. We can easily fall back upon it as and when necessary. By this method, we
can store our lessons. The knowledge gained through experience is thorough,
accurate, and complete. Self-experience cannot be substituted by any amount of
classroom demonstrations or lectures by the best teachers. The first-hand and
intimate knowledge of any subject can be acquired only if the students involve
themselves in the entire process of a particular job. Thus it is rightly said
that experience is the best teacher.
বাংলা অনুবাদঃ আমরা সুস্পষ্ট দুভাবে শিক্ষা
লাভ করি। প্রথমত, নিজে কিছু করে জ্ঞানার্জন করা; দ্বিতীয়টি হলো অন্যদের নিকট থেকে নির্দেশ
শুনে। অন্যের নিকট থেকে শুনে শেখার চেয়ে নিজে নিজে জ্ঞানার্জন করলে মনে রেখাপাত করে
অনেক বেশি। নির্দেশাবলি থেকে শেখার ক্ষেত্রে আমরা মস্তিষ্কের উপর চাপ প্রয়োগ করি যে
পড়াটাকে আত্মস্থ করা যায়। কিন্তু নিজ অভিজ্ঞতালব্ধ জ্ঞান আরও অধিক সহজে হৃদয়াঙ্গম করা
যায়। সেগুলো আমাদের মনে গেঁথে থাকে। যখনই প্রয়োজন হয় তখনই আমরা সেগুলো মনে আনতে পারি।
এই পন্থায় আমরা জ্ঞান সংরক্ষণ করতে পারি। অভিজ্ঞতার আলোকে অর্জিত জ্ঞান হলো বাস্তবভিত্তিক,
সঠিক এবং পূর্ণাঙ্গ। নিজ অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে অর্জিত জ্ঞান শ্রেণিকক্ষের সেরা শিক্ষকের বক্তৃতা
থেকে অধিক উপযোগী। যে-কোনো বিষয়ের বাস্তব জ্ঞান তখনই অর্জিত হবে যখন ছাত্ররা নিজেদেরকে
কোনো বিশেষ একটি কাজে মনোনিবেশ করবে। তাই বলা যায় যা, অভিজ্ঞতাই সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ শিক্ষক।
