Many people think that the course of
man’s life on earth is fixed by fate. But in fact, man’s future depends on his own
self. If a man wastes his time in idleness or depends too much on others, he
will fail in life. The man who uses time and opportunities properly is sure to
succeed in life. Even ordinary abilities will bring him success if he makes good use of them. In fact, history abounds in examples of men rising to
greatness from a humble beginning merely by their own exertions. On the other
hand, we often come across men endowed with abilities failing in life. This is
because they did not make proper use of their time and opportunities, but
wasted them in idleness. Their abilities thus got wasted and useless. So it is
we that make or mar ourselves and not fate.

তাকে সাফল্য এনে দেবে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে ইতিহাসে এমন সব লোকের দৃষ্টান্ত আছে যারা শুধু তাদের
নিজ উদ্যমে অখ্যাত অবস্থান থেকে শুরু করে উচ্চ অবস্থানে আসীন হয়েছেন। অন্যদিকে, প্রায়শ
আমাদের চোখে সামর্থ্যবান লোকের সাক্ষাৎ মেলে যারা জীবনে ব্যর্থ হয়েছে। এর কারণ তারা
সময় ও সুযোগের যথাযথ ব্যবহার করেনি; বরং অলসতায় সেগুলোকে অপচয় করেছিল। তাদের সামর্থ্য
এভাবে নষ্ট ও মূল্যহীন হয়েছিল। তাই আমরাই আমাদের নিজেদেরকে তৈরি করি অথবা ধ্বংস করি,
আমাদের ভাগ্য নয়।
