Introduction: A nation prospers when its literature and culture develops. Poets, scientists, philosophers and scholars bring their nation to the notice of the world people. Qazi Nazrul Islam is one of the great poets in Bengali literature and the greatest poet of Bangladesh. 


Boyhood and Education: Qazi Nazrul Islam was born at Churulia in the district of Bardwan in 1899. His father was Qazi Fakir and he died when Nazrul was a little boy. He did not have the opportunity to pass the Matriculation Examination.


His career: He was in class ten. The first world war broke out in 1914. He was a young man about eighteen years. He joined the Bengali Regiment. Soon he became a Havildar. During this time in his leisure time. He began to write poems. Sword and pen worked at a time. He composed poems against the oppression of the British rule. Sometimes, he was sent to prison. But his work was not stopped for a day. But all on a sudden, he was paralysed in the year 1944. His pen totally stopped. He breathed his last in the year 1976. He was buried within the premises of the Central Mosque of the University of Dhaka as he told.


His works: Qazi Nazrul Islam’s famous poetic works are Augnibina, Sindhu Hindole, Bisher Banshi, Sarbahara, Bulbul, Samyabadi, Bhangar-gan. Etc. He wrote some novels and drama too. He was a lyric poet. He wrote many songs. His songs are more in number than that of Rabindra Nath Tagore.


Speciality of His merit: He was a poet, a singer, an editor, a political personality and a great fighter against injustice, oppression and superstitions. He did never try to compromise with any evil or in writing against the rulers. His poems and songs are full of patriotism, human right, revolution against anything unhuman and immoral. His poems are full of self-consciousness and inspiration for rebellion.  Every line of his poem raise undomitable spirit in the mind of the reader. His thoughts and rhythm of poems and songs moves every heart. That is why love him most.
